- 1.2% of African population of 1 billion is blind. One every four children lose sight when reached age 5 in countries such as Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso.

- Half of 10 million blind African people have cataract disease.

- Only 500 people out of 1 million cataract patients receive treatment.

- One person every 5 seconds and one child per minute in third world countries get blind.

- Especially in Saharan countries such as Niger, Chad, Mali, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia one doctor is responsible for 40.000 people approximately. Millions of people die without the chance to see a doctor in their lifetime.

- 80% of patients with AIDS in the world live in Africa.

- More than half of the population in Africa has to survive with a daily income of 1 dollar.

- One African child dies every ten seconds due to preventable diseases.

- The number of eye operators in Niger is only 11. That means one doctor is responsible to see 1.2 million people.
