Because of the war,famine,poverty etc.reasons there are a lot of unprotected and orphan children in the world. During the war that continued in Iraq about 5 millions of children were orphaned. Thousands of children in Africa are orphans or unprotected because of the negative climate conditions, civil wars and similar reasons. In the regions as Pakistan,Ache and Bangladesh where the natural disaster caused big destructions thousands of children are orphans and unprotected. The biggest threats and dangers that can corrupt the mental,physical and spiritual healths of the children can be listed as follows:

Service Regions For Orphans

The services for for orphans have been continued in the atmosphere of hot war,refugee camps and the regions where the effects of the war are seen. In the insecure atmosphere of the war, initially by meeting the health and food needs of the orphan children, children are transferred to the secure atmospheres.

The possible financial and inward support are given to the orphans living in the refugee camps near the war zones with the survivors from the orphan’s family,if there is nobody who survived from the orphan’s family, in the most suitable place to shelter that support will be provided.

In the service to the orphans, the rescue activities come first. The orphans determined after the emergency situations are protected against all kinds of abuses in suitable transitory shelters. Till the relatives of the orphans who survived are found their needs are met, if no one has survied or could not be found from their families, permanent shelters are prepared considering the regional structure and the demands of the foundations cooperated in the region.

Services for orphans include the children who lost their parents because of poverty and the diseases the poverty caused, famine and drought.

The Purpose, Aim and Audit of the services for Orphans

The basic purpose of the services for orphans is giving support for the orphans who cannot continue their lives on their owns till they have capability to stand on their own feet, provide education for them and prepare them tol ive with affection of a family.

IHH, Humanitarian Relief Foundation, on one side has been delivering emergency aid for the people who suffer from natural disaster, on the other hand has been acting with the mission to meet all the needs of the orphans in secure atmospheres till their relatives who survived, the trustable or authorized people are reached before the human traffickers or organ mafia.

IHH, Humanitarian Relief Foundation attaches importance for the children who became orphans and unprotected in the regions of war, natural disaster and poverty, without being separated from their own lands and cultures, especially near their relatives. Chance and oppurtunity to shelter are provided for the children who have no relatives.

In order to enable this, it is carefully focused to adjust the orphanages that are opened in a way to meet all kinds of needs of the children in a lovely,restful and compassionate family atmosphere. Orphan services within the country, besides giving financial and inward support to the orphans- orphaned because of different reasons as the accidents,diseases and disasters -in need staying near their relatives, it includes the inward support for the orphan children who have no one being sheltered in the Social Services Child Protection Foundation.

As IHH has been inspecting the services for the orphans in their places; and has been continuing this control over the orphan protecting families and orphanages. For example during the regular orphanage inspection, the working system of the orphanage,physical conditions,building conditions,the level to meet the cloth,health and education needs of the orphans;the condition to present the psychologist,social service expert and guidance in the orphanage revised.

Types of orphan aids

Sheltering: Opportunity to shelter in the secure and peaceful conditions for sheltering is provided for the children.

Nutrition: Optimum level of food for the nutrition standar tsa re provided for children.

Clothes: Clothes to meet the needs of the children are provided.

Health: Besides meeting the health needs of the children medical examination and providing medicine psychological support is provided fort he children.

Education: By supporting the occupational and religious education,the programmes to integrate the children with the society and socialization of them are made.

Orphan Service Categories

Periodical Aids: In the regions where the need continues, not periodically every month but in 3,4,6 months or in 1 year periodically the mass aids.

Time-limited aids: In the regions where the need is transitory,these aids are made for a specific limited time.

Permanent aids:For long term or indefinite term,made monthly and regularly.

1. Sponsor Family System

Sponsor Family System is the system in which in all around the world by a person,group or foundation the equal amount of money with monthly 70 TL is paid regularly during a year for the needs of an orphan.

IHH, initially in the regions of war,natural disaster and poverty, including Turkey in 30 countries and regions has been meeting the sheltering,cloth,education and health needs of the orphans.

Individual or the foundation that wants to support the orphans in the region where IHH, Humanitarian Relief Foundation helps the orphans, by filling the Sponsor Family Application Form passes it to the IHH Orphans’ Service Coordinatory.

After the application is evaluated the person who wants to be sponsor in kept in touch. Any orphan in the region that is either preferred in the application form or determined by our foundation is supported by the sponsor (not less than a year) till the period the sponsor wants.

Person who applies, as declared in the form ( For 1 year or more) for an orphan or more with the method prefered in the form(by hand,credit card, online donation etc.) reaches to the Orphan Fund.

To the sponsor families the information about the orphan as the country,the city,age,name or photo is given. This informing is either by e-mail or mail. This information is confidentially kept bu our foundation in the regions where there is a security problem for the orphans.

Once in a year a report is presented to the sponsor on the orphan excluding the regions of war. The sponsors who want to write letter to the orphans- once in a year after the text of the letter is controlled and translated by the authorities of the foundation-by means of IHH can send letters to the orphans.But no guarantee is given to them that the orphans will reply back.

The monthly expense of an orphan is 70 TL on the average. If you want you can donate the annual donation of 840 TL in advance to the “Orphans’ Fund” that is arranged for the orphans; you can also continue all kinds of donations and support according to your financial power.

2. Pool System

All kinds of aid studies out of the areas and regions apart from the IHH’s orphan aid,sponsor family and project sponsorship are evaluated in the pool system.According to this whatever the amount is each aid that is made excluding the sponsor family and project sponsorship is evaluated by being added into the orphan’s aid pool.

3. Project Sponsorship System

The orphanage and house counstruction and repairing for the orphans, equipment of the shelters,school furniture and other needs, solving the private health problems, projects like opening the water wells for clean water are accomplished in the sponsorship of the individuals,foundations and organizations so that the life conditions of the orphans are made better.
