Freedom Flotilla

In Gaza, we witnessed scenes that none of us wanted to see. We felt in our bones how helpless the world is. Something needed to be done. We made a decision regarding this. We held intensive consultations, came together with many people of goodwill from all over the world. We realized we had no choice but to sail to the Mediterranean with the Freedom Flotilla's components, so we bought ships.

On October 7, 2023, Israel launched an attack on Gaza, which had been under an embargo and blockade for years. It massacred more than 35,000 civilians, including more than 10,000 women and children.

To date, we have delivered emergency aid to hundreds of thousands of people, but the situation in Palestine is getting worse every day.

Now, with hundreds of volunteers from 12 different countries and ships carrying 5,500 tons of humanitarian aid materials, we are sailing to the Mediterranean once again to break the blockade on Gaza and to shout out the cruelty of Israel to the whole world.

Filo ile ilgili merak ettikleriniz

  • What is the purpose of the fleet?
We aim to put the genocide in Gaza firmly on the agenda of international decision-makers and states, and to create a strong initiative to end the Israeli aggression and lift the embargo on the territory.

  • Flotilla, why?
Because aid going to Gaza by land is left to Israel's discretion.
    • Who's organizing the fleet?
IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and Mavi Marmara Association from Turkey are among the non-governmental organizations organizing the flotilla. The international organizations supporting the flotilla include Canadian Boat to Gaza (Canada), US Boat to Gaza (USA), Kia Ora Gaza (New Zealand), Free Gaza Australia (Australia), Ship to Gaza (Norway), MyCARE (Malaysia), Ship to Gaza (Sweden), Palestine Solidarity Alliance (South Africa), Rumbo a Gaza (Spain) and International Committee for Breaking the Siege of Gaza.
    • Who is joining the fleet?
Passengers from more than 30 countries are expected to attend, with the main organizing countries being Norway, USA, Canada, Germany, South Africa, New Zealand, Sweden, Indonesia, Spain, Türkiye.
    • What's the fleet's route?
The Freedom Flotilla coalition has made it clear that it wants to reach Gaza directly. At the same time, it considers it its duty to put pressure on all elements in the region to speed up the passage of the thousands of containers of humanitarian aid waiting at the Egypt/Arish border, Gaza's only gateway to the world. The logistics committee will determine the most beneficial route and port, considering all options for the benefit of Gaza.
    • When will the ships sail?
The departure of the ships is planned for the second half of April. Ships from other regions will also be expected in the Mediterranean and will sail together.
    • What does IHH do?
Work is underway on the recruitment process of the ships to be included in the flotilla, the supply of aid materials to be placed on the cargo ships, the acceptance of in-kind donations, and the organization of rallies and demonstrations that will attract public attention to Gaza.
    • How can I get help to the ships?
First of all, you can support the process of buying the ships. The most important stage of this flotilla is to purchase the ships and use them for the benefit of Gaza. For this purpose, you can send your cash donations to our foundation. You can also make in-kind donations from all provinces and districts of Turkey through IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation.
    • Will passengers be allowed on the ships?
Yes, but the number of passengers has not yet been finalized. The members of the coalition will recruit passengers based on the necessary activities and needs, taking into account the established criteria. Given the risky nature of the voyage and the fact that the destination is a crisis zone, all participants who can contribute to the flotilla should be open about certain aspects. They should invite individuals and organizations that seem more beneficial for Gaza before themselves and respect the final decision of the passenger committee.
