Heavy rains and storms which began in Philippines’ Mindanao, Cagayan De Oro and Iligan provinces turned into a powerful typhoon. The typhoon, named Washi, affected half of the Cagayan de Oro province and rural and mountainous areas of Iligan province.

Women and children are missing

Approximately 1,000 people, most of whom are women and children, are reported to have gone missing in the disaster. Officials have so far evacuated 150,000 people from the regions hit by floods. The floods caused major damage in tens of villages and towns in the country.

Acting in cooperation with its partner in the region, Hayat (Life) Mindanao and another relief foundation, Çare [Solution] Foundation, which has orphanages in the region, the IHH has provided emergency relief items including food, clean water, medicine and cleaning items, to 10,000 disaster victims in Philippines. IHH continues relief efforts in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro in the Mandalanao island of the country

Waiting for a bowl of rice for days

Typhoon victims in Philippines, who have had no sleep for nights, have been waiting for a bowl of rice for days. One of the biggest problems in the disaster-stricken country is lack of clean drinking water. There are fears about outbreak of epidemics due to mud which will be left after flood waters recede. Charity givers who would like to make donations for disaster victims in Philippines can visit www.ihh.org.tr website or give a call to the IHH from the +90212 6312121 number.
