Pakistan sustained significant damage due to natural disasters which hit the country over the past years. A flood disaster which hit the country in 2010 claimed the lives of thousands of Pakistanis while it left millions of others homeless. IHH launched large-scale relief efforts in the country in the aftermath of the natural disasters. IHH is making special efforts for the protection of orphans in the country.

While the IHH continues relief activities in Pakistan, volunteers of the foundation do not forget the Pakistani orphans.

Students from the Islamic University of Europe who want to sponsor the construction of an orphanage in Pakistan prepared hand-made products in months-long efforts. These products were put on sale during the iftar dinner where participants paid for admission tickets. The money collected from the sale of these products will be used for the construction of an orphanage in Pakistan. The orphanage will provide accommodation to 250 Pakistani and Afghan refugee orphans.

The iftar dinner where participants joined from the Eminönü and Üsküdar ports in İstanbul began with Quran recitation. IHH representative in Pakistan Mehmet Kara, Professor Ahmet Ağırakça, rector of Islamic University of Europe were among the participants of the iftar.

Delivering a speech at the event, Ağırakça said: “If you want to be a neighbor to our prophet [in the heaven], you should extend your helping hand to orphans.”

He also voiced his contentment about his students’ organizing such an event and called on all charity givers to offer their helping hand for the orphans in Pakistan.
