IHH offers support to Nepali Quran translation
The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation offered support to the project of the Nepal Islamic Yuva Sangh organization to translate the Quran into Nepali.
SouthAsia, Nepal 15.01.2008

There is no complete Quran translation in Nepali except for short parts published so far in Nepal, where around two million Muslims live. Hindus form 80 percent of Nepal’s 30-million population. Non-existence of a Nepali Quran translation is believed to be the biggest obstacle against the spread of Islam in the country.

The project of translating the Quran into Nepali will be accelerated thanks to the donation made by the IHH to al-Hira foundation, which was founded to provide assistance for educational and cultural projects as an affiliate of the Nepal Islamic Yuva Sangh, the leading Islamic NGO in Nepal and an umbrella organization for all Muslim establishments and organizations in the country. Nepali Quran translation project, which is expected to be completed within three months, will be the first of its kind.

Zulfiqar Ali, president of the Yuva Sangh, and Nazrul Hasan, general secretary of the organization, said, “We accept IHH’s support to this project on behalf of Nepalese Muslims. We hope to perpetuate our relations with IHH. Your visit to Nepal pleased us,” expressing their thanks over the contribution.

The IHH performed sacrificial slaughters in Nepal for the first time this year as part of a campaign that included 111 countries and regions worldwide.
