One thousand cataract surgeries in Somalia
IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, who is running the Africa Cataract Campaign in Somalia has successfully performed 1,000 surgeries.

 IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, who is running the Africa Cataract Campaign in Somalia has successfully performed 1,000 surgeries.

Our cataract team who is in Somalia firstly conducted medical consultations in Somalia's Benadir and Lower Shabelle regions. The project that is carried in Somalia with the cooperation of Zamzam Foundation enabled 1,000 patients to undergo cataract surgeries.

There are many cataract patients in the highly populated Somalia that is financially inadequate and have limited health services.

The Cataract Project

IHH has so far conducted 700,000 medical screenings, 300,000 examinations and performed 84,500 surgeries in Togo, Benin, Ghana, Chad, Uganda, Tanzania, Sierra Leona, Niger, Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia.

What is Cataract?

Cataract, which throughout the world is more known as a disease of the elderly, is a medical condition that gives the lens in the eye a blurry view as well as loses its transparency and can cause blindness if left untreated.

Due to the hot air, lack of nutrition and climate conditions in Africa, many people are loosing their eye sight at a very young age as Cataract reduces the ability to see.

Ships are ready, the Freedom Flotilla sail towards Gaza!
Bülent Yıldırım, the President of the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), inspected two purchased ships for the International Freedom Flotilla. Yıldırım stated, "This cargo ship has a capacity of 5,500 tons and its name is Anadolu. It will carry our country's aid and compassion to Gaza. The name of other ship is Vicdan (Conscience). This ship will accommodate conscientious activists from around the world and deliver the conscience of the world to the shores of Gaza."
