Agricultural Project in Sudan-Darfur becomes hope for region
IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation continues with development projects in African countries. As part of these projects in Africa which struggles against hunger and drought, IHH is giving support to families who make their living from farming.
Africa, Sudan 26.03.2013

10 Sudanese families, who have been provided with the necessary equipment and seeds necessary for agricultural production over the past one year as part of the project, have begun farming in a land rented by IHH.
These families who grow gumbo on a five-acre land rented by IHH in West Darfur region of Sudan make money by selling these products in the local bazaar. The next stage of the project will be expanding the rented agricultural area so that more families can benefit from it.

Forty-seven percent of the people in Sudan, whose economy has been deteriorating following the division in 2011, live under the poverty line. The West Darfur region, which has been witnessing armed conflicts since 2003, suffers from various problems related to infrastructure and transportation in addition to climate. In order to make the lives of Sudanese people easier, 80 percent of whom work in the agricultural sector, there is need for some projects to increase agricultural production.

Agricultural Project of IHH, which has opened thousands of water wells in Africa, aims to ensure switch from field agriculture to garden cultivation with a sustainable method and minimum cost, hoping that this will minimize the effects of drought on agriculture
