Africa, Chad 23.02.2010

The problem of reaching clean drinking water is getting worse. Worldwide 1.4 billion people have problems with reaching clean drinking water. In Africa, the poorest continent, around 250 million people are affected by water shortages. Each year thousands of Africans die from epidemics caused by lack of clean drinking water.

The number of water wells dug by the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation in drought-hit Chad rose to 75.

The foundation is supplying fresh water to thousands of people with water wells it digs in different African countries. In addition to 71 wells dug so far in various regions of Chad, the foundation inaugurated four new ones. The new wells dug in Djimeze, Delekena, Aboundouroura, and Mabrouka regions were named Cafer Demirci and Family, Hacı Elife Pan, Kevser and Ahmet Water Well, and Sıddıka Molu Water Well. They will provide clean water to 18,000 Chadians.

The IHH is digging, with donations from benevolent people, water wells in African countries of Chad, Somalia, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Mali, Benin, Ghana and Togo. You can fund digging of a well in any African country you wish and help do away with water shortages in the continent. Contact number for more information: 0212 631 21 21
