Around the world there are around four hundred million orphan children who lost their parents for various reasons. Every year millions of children are trafficked by human traffickers, organ mafia and prostitution rings or used by missionary organizations. Orphanages are vitally important to protect orphan children from risky environment. IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation on behalf of Turkey cares for orphans at thirty-two orphanages that it opened in eleven countries
IHH, which currently shelters 2.350 orphans in its orphanages, does not only meet accommodation needs of orphans. With the support of donors IHH facilitates teaching students Quran by heart (hifz) in some of these orphanages. In other orphanages the foundation arranges for cozy homes where orphans prepare for life.
“Our mission is to raise educated individuals”
IHH Coordinator of Orphanages Mr. Numan Aka explains why IHH puts so much emphasis on orphanages: "The greatest mission of our orphanages is not just offering orphan children food and bed but to provide them proper education which will allow them to continue to higher education and lead good lives as individuals with high morality and principles. Therefore most of our orphanages are next to an education complex or inside it. These opportunities makes a big difference for orphan children especially in the countryside.”
